We started off April with a fun craft project; Nathan used his new scissors (which, by the way, he just loves to use as much as possible) to cut up red paper and glue to a picture of a cross and then we cut the cross out. While we worked on the project we talked all about how Jesus died on the cross for us ...

Later that week we went to Grandma's to make resurrection rolls with her. Not only were these tasty treats, they were also packed full of symbolism. While we made them, we read about Jesus' death, burial, resurrection and ascension in Nathan's Story Book Bible. We talked about how the marshmallow symbolizes Jesus - white and pure like Jesus was without sin. Then we rolled the marshmallow in butter which symbolizes the embalming oils. Then we rolled the marshmallow in cinnamon and sugar to symbolize the spices used to prepare His body for burial. Next we wrapped the marshmallow in a crescent roll which represents the burial cloth. Then we put them in the oven which represents the tomb...
After they were done cooking we opened the tomb and removed the rolls; when we bit into them, the marshmallow was gone, just like how the burial cloth was empty when Jesus was resurrected...
YUMMY!
While Grandma was still on spring break we took a trip to The Butterfly House...
We also introduced Nathan to the fun of dyeing eggs which he thoroughly enjoyed...

In the middle of the month Nathan had a dream come true (no, it was not a trip to Sarah's spa, but that was a stop along the way)...
We spent an afternoon at Aunt Carrie's Great Uncle Mel's dairy farm in Staunton, IL...
Nathan had an absolute ball riding on the BIG tractors...
We had some trouble climbing up the very steep stairs of the combine harvester so Nathan opted for a picture in front of it with Mr. Cisler (aka Aunt Carrie's Daddy) and Madi...
We also got to pet a calf that had just been born a few weeks prior (Nathan would say in a very soft, sweet voice, 'awww, it's a baby cow'...
The kids were shocked (as were myself, Aunt Carrie and Mr. Cisler) over how loudly the tiny calf mooed...

We got to try our hand at it before they strapped on the electric milkers (now this was an experience I truly didn't think I would ever have but it was SO cool as you can tell by the expression on my face)...

Daddy brought home these huge boxing gloves from work (they were using them as a promo) and Nathan had a blast playing with them...
Oh, this is classic! One afternoon after Nathan woke up from his nap I came into his room and this is what his bed looked like. I asked him where he slept and he pointed to the left hand corner...
We moved into our house on Saturday, April 28, 2012 and after an exhausting day we actually ate dinner and spent the night at Grandma and Pa Pa's house. But, here we are on Sunday, April 29th having our first family dinner in our beautiful eat-in kitchen...

Other than tractors and his new scissors, Nathan has been into some other things this month. He's been having lots of very fun laughing fits and he's really into jumping off things and climbing furniture (which is kind of exciting because it means he's getting slightly more daring and adventurous). Also, he has been enjoying seeing himself cry in the mirror; when I'm disciplining him and he starts crying he'll stop and say, "Mommy, I want to see me cry - will you pick me up to the mirror please?" He would stop crying every now and then to get a good look at himself...what a crack up!
Some of the fun things he's been saying this month include, "Mommy, you're my best friend," "I like to call my baby girl 'Babe'" and "Watch me!" (because he likes us to watch ANYTHING and EVERYTHING he does). In other news, blue is out and green is in...he likes to announce that green is his favorite color! The cutest thing he said was when we were leaving the library one afternoon and as we were leaving the children's area he waved and yelled, "Bye ladies!" and then at the checkout counter he yelled, "Bye - see you next time!" They all got a kick out of that! And hands down, the quote of the month was during a Saturday morning pancake and bacon breakfast at Grandma and Pa Pa's when Nathan said, "I like my Mommy!...and pork!" Boy did I feel special!
